Finding and recruiting companions early in Baldur's Gate 3 drastically changes your early tactical approach and narrative depth. Lae'zel, the fierce Githyanki fighter, is an exceptionally strong frontline warrior who can carry your party through difficult early battles. Locating her after the chaotic crash of the Nautiloid requires a brief detour, but adding her martial prowess to your roster is well worth the effort.

Where to Find Lae'zel After the Nautiloid Crash

Once you wake up on the Ravaged Beach, you must head northward away from the shipwreck area to locate your missing ally. She can be found trapped in a hanging wooden cage suspended above the ground just north of the Roadside Cliffs waypoint. Two Tiefling scouts have captured her and are currently debating what to do with their unusual dangerous prisoner.

Approaching this location triggers a crucial dialogue interaction where you must decide how to handle the tense standoff. If you do not visit this area before taking a long rest at your camp, Lae'zel will eventually break free on her own and move to a different area deeper in the map.

How to Successfully Recruit Lae'zel to Your Party

To secure her freedom and allegiance, you need to deal with the Tiefling captors either through careful diplomacy or direct combat. Utilizing persuasion or deception checks allows you to convince the scouts to leave peacefully without shedding blood. Alternatively, you can side with Lae'zel directly and attack the scouts to quickly resolve the situation.

Once the scouts are handled, use a ranged weapon or a damage spell to shoot the bottom of the wooden cage to break it open. After she drops safely to the ground, speak with her and agree to join forces to find a cure for the parasite. If your party is already completely full, you can still recruit her and send her directly to wait at your campsite.

Maximizing Lae'zel's Combat Potential and Approval

Lae'zel functions as an incredible frontline fighter capable of absorbing heavy damage while dealing massive structural return strikes. Gaining her approval requires you to respect her military traditions, show decisive strength, and avoid unnecessary detours or acts of perceived weakness. She responds incredibly well to aggressive tactics and values direct combat efficiency over passive diplomatic solutions.

Keeping her in your active squad unlocks unique dialogue pathways when interacting with other Githyanki groups encountered across the wilderness. Managing her strong personality can be challenging, but her unwavering martial focus provides unmatched combat consistency during the first act of your journey.
